Petsche’s Shoes is a quality shoe store located in the heart of downtown Kitchener. Whether you are looking for something stylish or comfy, they have it all! They sell quality footwear at reasonable prices and pride themselves on offering their customers exceptional and knowledgeable service.
A Strong History:
Petsche’s Shoes in Kitchener has been an integral part of the downtown core since 1954. The store was founded by Gustav and Edeltraut Petsche and has been a family run business ever since. Gustav immigrated to Canada from Austria where he studied as a merchant and apprenticed to become a store owner. When he settled in Kitchener, he raised the money to fulfill his dream and purchased a shoe store which would later become Petsche’s Shoes. Today, the store is run by their daughter Anita with help from her two brothers.
When I asked Anita what made Petsche’s unique, she said “customer’s comment on the excellent service and care. We want people to leave happy and tell their friends. That’s what they do!”. She also said that a lot of people don’t realize the importance of a good pair of shoes. All your body weight is on your feet. Wearing the proper size and fit, especially for young children, is important. Part of the service they offer is that all their staff are properly trained to size and fit your feet therefore you know you are getting the right shoes for you. They also do custom ordering for a client if they’re looking for a specific style, colour or size. Most of the time this service is free of charge.
More than just another great place to find shoes in Kitchener, Petsche’s has a vast array of purses and other accessories. They carry Gehwol foot care products and also the standard shoe care, polishes and sprays. One thing that will shock you when you go in is that it is not a tiny store. It may look that way from the outside, but it is quite deep. They have a vast amount of stock and inventory. You can even buy vintage shoes from the 70’s and 80’s starting at $20 and up!
Petsche’s is involved in many different local organizations and charities. A few near and dear to their heart is the Waterloo Region Down Syndrome Society, Sunbeam Centre and the Autism Society because they have many clients who uses these services. These are just a few of the many local charities they support.
