October 5th – Proyecto Altiplano will lead a tribute to Victor Jara, the distinguished Chilean theatre director and renowned singer-songwriter who helped establish the New Chilean Song Movement. Jara was tortured and killed when the Pinochet regime took power in the bloody military coup of 1973. This tribute concert commemorates the 40-year anniversary of the coup and another of its victims, Pablo Neruda – Nobel Laureate, poet, politician and Neruda Arts’ namesake.

Members of Proyecto Altiplano are among the top Latin musicians in Toronto. With a virtuosity in over 30 wind, string and percussion instruments, they are dedicated to preserving and contributing to Andean culture by bringing their music to audiences across Canada.

October 19th – Color Violeta will celebrate the life and legacy of the beloved Chilean singer-songwriter, ethnomusicologist, visual artist and cultural icon, Violeta Parra (1917-1967). Violeta Parra was one of the primary forces behind the New Chilean Song Movement.

Color Violeta’s Director, Daniel Emden, received approval from the Violeta Parra foundation and her family to perpetuate Parra’s legacy and that of a family that has been at the root of Latin American music. In 2011, Color Violeta was invited to perform in Chile by Ángel Parra Orrego, Violeta Parra’s grandson, with whom they shared the stage during their performances in Santiago
