CENTRE IN THE SQUARE’S OPENING PARTY FEATURES VERTICAL DANCE PIONEER BANDALOOP, FOOD TRUCKS, AND MUSICAL PERFORMANCES! 

CENTRE IN THE SQUARE’S OPENING PARTYCentre In The Square launches its 2013-14 season with an Opening Party on September 13 at 6 PM and September 14 at 5 PM featuring food, music and awesome outdoor aerial performances by San Francisco based vertical dance company BANDALOOP in their Kitchener premiere.  BANDALOOP Artistic director Amelia Rudolph will deliver a compelling, unconventional outdoor dance performance using the Centre’s fly tower. BANDALOOP will perform two free 18-minute shows on September 13 and 14 at 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM.  Audiences are advised to bring a mat or beach chair for best viewing.

BANDALOOP honors nature, community, and the human spirit through perspective-bending dance. A pioneer in vertical performance, BANDALOOP weaves climbing technology, dynamic physicality and intricate choreography to turn the dance floor on its side. Under the artistic direction of Amelia Rudolph, the work re-imagines dance, activates public spaces, and inspires wonder and imagination in audiences around the world. Artistic Director Amelia Rudolph is a choreographer, educator, public speaker and dynamic performer.  She founded BANDALOOP in 1991, bringing together dance, climbing, and off-the-ground movement through site-reactive work on cliffs, buildings, and in theatres.  Rudolph holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in comparative religion from Swarthmore College and the Graduate Theological Union.  She has been named an Irvine Fellow, is a multi-year recipient from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and has been awarded over 30 major grants and commissions, including, most recently, commissions from the Segerstrom Performing Arts Center, the Arts Partners in Creative Development in Canada as part of the Cultural Olympiad and major grants from the Wattis, Irvine and American Express Foundations.  Her work has been presented in 12 countries and across North America, most often in non-traditional performance settings.

This performance by BANDALOOP is conceived and directed by Amelia Rudolph; Assistant Director Rachael Lincoln; Choreography in collaboration with the performers: Rachael Lincoln, Roel Seeber, Meghan Merrill, Kara Morris, Jordan Stout, Jessica McKee and Danny Nguyen; Rigging by Derrick Lindsay.

Centre In The Square’s Opening Party also features free musical performances by Danny Michel Trio (September 13), singer-songwriter Jeremy Fischer (September 13 and 14) and alt-country band Cuff the Duke (September 14).

Party guests will also have the opportunity to purchase tasty treats from a caravan of popular local food trucks including West of Seoul, Schmuck Truck, Great British Bake, SWAT and Luchador Gourmet Streatery.
