42nd National Music Festival
Waterloo welcomes Canada’s top young classical musicians at 42nd National Music Festival. The country’s best young musicians will be in Waterloo, to compete in the prestigious 42nd NATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL at Wilfrid Laurier University. It has been six years since Ontario has hosted the National Festival.
The city of Waterloo will welcome approximately 60 participants ranging in age from 13 to 28 years, representing the top winners from each of our ten provinces. They will compete for cash awards in eight different categories: piano, strings, voice, woodwinds, brass, guitar, chamber groups, and percussion. To compete at the National Music Festival, the musicians have to first receive a first-place standing in one of Canada’s 230 local festivals, then win first-place again at their Provincial Music Festival, which are currently underway across the country.
The top three performers in each discipline will be selected by the Festival’s nationally acclaimed adjudicators.
The first place winners of each discipline will compete for the Grand Award Winner title and prize of $5000 at the Grand Award Concert on Saturday, August 10, 7:30pm. These truly are the best of the best young classical musicians in Canada, and many will go on to successful careers in music.
Where: Maureen Forrester Recital Hall, WLU
When: August 8 – 10, 2013
