Jean’s and Classics – Shaken not Stirred – Yeah, baby

Shaken not StirredWe really like the Jeans ‘n Classics series at Centre in the Square. Always interesting. Always informative. And most importantly, always entertaining.

Tonight was no different.

We saw Shaken Not Stirred: The Music of James Bond. It started, of course, with the “James Bond” theme, probably the most well known movie theme music of all time. The other tunes included one of my favorites – Live and Let Die – they saved that till the very end. But it was worth the wait.

I didn’t know that James Bond music was quite so popular. All the music was instantly recognizable: Goldfinger, A View to a Kill,  Skyfall, and of course, You Only Live Twice. All in all, there were eighteen numbers played and all can be considered classics.

The second half of the show was one BIG hit after another. They cheated. They played some classic music from the 60’s and 70’s that wasn’t James Bond. It was Austin Power’s – Yeah baby, yeah.

Oh, behave.

You probably know already, but the biggest stars sang Bond music: Tom Jones, Sheena Easton, Louis Armstrong, Cheryl Crow, Carley Simon and of course Paul and Linda McCartney. Also tonight was music from Marvin Gaye (Let’s get it on), the Zombies, and the Monkeys.

If you’ve never been out to see a “Jeans ‘n Classics” show, you don’t know what you’re missing. They are the most entertaining concerts of the season. They are popular. They are the longest running series at Centre in the Square. If you can get tickets for tomorrow night’s show, do it.
