Queen Street Commons Cafe

Queen Street Commons Cafe On Friday afternoon I had a coffee date at The Queen Street Commons Café. I recently read that downtown Kitchener had over 30 coffee shops. I have a lot of coffee meetings so it’s my quest to try them all, if I can find them. The Queen Street Commons Café was a good place to start on my quest. It used to be the Second Look Books and it’s a large and funky place and still has some of the old book shelves (with books). It is the kind of gathering place that is central to community vitality. It’s run by the working centre across the street and by volunteers. It is a place that provides opportunities for music, gathering, movies and conversation. The Queen Street Commons Café is affordable, and has vegetarian home-style meals, snacks and desserts. The coffee is fair-trade organic coffee. I had a coffee and Gary had a pumpkin pie and a small pot of tea.  It’s a little bit of a confusing place but it’s also very welcoming.

Menu Items

The café offers vegetarian fare, including dips, pizzas, soups, salads, and daily lunch specials. The wide assortment of freshly baked cookies, muffins, squares & cakes includes dairy, wheat & sugar-free options, as well as more decadent choices. Fair trade coffees and organic herbal teas served. It is our hope that whole foods produced locally can be accessible and affordable to those with limited income.
