Skate 48

Skate 48Saturday, February 16th marks the 23rd Annual SKATE 48 Hockey Tournament

SKATE 48 has a long standing tradition of fun hockey, a boisterous post-game meal, prizes, bragging rights, spirited conversation and an incredible fundraiser for local children’s charities. Teams challenge each other to a one game hockey duel with the winning team having the honour of eating roast beef and the losing team receiving hot dogs at the post game party. In addition to the ice time and meal, all participants receive a commemorative hockey shirt that has long been coveted in dressing rooms around the Kitchener-Waterloo region.

With a team registration fee of only $125 and space for only 64 teams, SKATE 48 provides incredible value, a whole lot of fun and the opportunity to help children in our community. The three ice surfaces at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex are booked from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and time slots are awarded on a first-come first-served basis. If you are hoping to play on the main Kitchener Auditorium ice, or hope to secure a specific time slot, you have to act now, so make sure to register right away.

This one game challenge style tournament has provided many entertaining and competitive hockey games, while raising funds for charities and other worthwhile causes in our community and throughout the world. Participants are encouraged to raise funds throughout the community and prizes are awarded on a team and an individual player basis based on the amounts raised. Over the 22 years of this event, nearly $2 million has been raised!

SKATE 48 is hosted by the Rotary Club of Kitchener-Grand River.

Play the Game, Enjoy the Party!

The Post Game Party

The post game party has long been touted as the prime venue for bragging about victories on the ice whether large (game winners) or small (able to get thru a 1.5 minute shift). Winners are treated to a “gourmet” meal of beef on a bun whereas losers are stuck with a plain old hot dog. Everyone is welcome to enjoy refreshments and to tell stories of their hockey prowess.

Free refreshment tickets are provided to all teams raising over $1,000.

The Prizes

  • Every individual who raises $150 or more in donations receives a prize from our prize table. These prizes are all donated by local companies and our Rotary club and represent our appreciation for the added support that these individuals have given us.
  • Every individual raising over $300 receives a prize from our preferred player prize table.
  • The top three individual fundraisers are specially recognized and receive appropriate prizes.
  • The top three Teams will receive our Grand Prize. Last year the teams were treated to a Kitchener Rangers Playoff Game in a private box. We will confirm the details of this year’s Grand Prize shortly!
