Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest,The Official Opening of the 44th annual Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest, North America’s largest Bavarian Festival begins at Kitchener City Hall’s Civic Square with the tapping of the keg. Since 1969, Oktoberfest has grown from a weekend event in one Festhalle, to a nine day, internationally famous festival that attracts over 700,000 participants. Kitchener Civic Square will be bustling with pomp and ceremony, music and dancing, and the enthusiasm of thousands of revelers eager to begin the Festival.

Miss Oktoberfest will be there as will our favourite ambassador Onkel Hans. Join in the Spirit of Gemuetlichkeit! Council’s Grillefest is back again!  Join members of Kitchener City Council to celebrate the official opening ceremonies of Oktoberfest. Council and city staff will be grilling up delicious, traditional Oktoberfest sausage nestled in a fresh bun and served with an ice cold soft drink to quench your thirst.   All for just $3.50!

This year’s Kitchener Waterloo Oktoberfest is bigger and better than ever with over 40 Family & Cultural Events and Festhallen. There is certainly something for everyone at Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest.

Kitchener Waterloo’s Oktoberfest is a not-for-profit Bavarian festival. It was founded in 1969 and is Canada’s Greatest Bavarian Festival. Octoberfest celebrates German heritage, food, music and other festivities and is supported by more than 50 not-for-profit organizations. The festival is operated by eight year-round full-time staff, over 435 volunteers and 1,300 community and service club volunteers that stage the nine-day festival each October promoting a unique German cultural experience. As well as the economic boost the festival gives the local economy during the international festival, over $1.5 million is raised each year by the not-for-profit organizations associated with Kitchener Waterloo Oktoberfest, one of the top three most recognized event brands in Canada.

Here are a couple of activities to get you started:


Downtown Kitchener Midway operates October 5 to the 7. Play games of chance, catch a thrill on a midway ride, eat a sausage and enjoy the sights and sounds of Oktoberfest outdoors.

5th Annual Bavarian Strongman Challenge

Come see amazing feat of strength at the 5th Annual Bavarian Strongman Challenge. Each challenge of strength tests the dynamic and static force of each competing athlete truly testing their endurance. (This event is on October 6th, 12-5pm)
