IIHF World Female Hockey DayWATERLOO GIRLS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION (Waterloo Ravens) host the IIHF World Female Hockey Day Marathon and Fundraiser

WHAT IS THE WORLD FEMALE HOCKEY DAY?

It’s time to celebrate the future of female hockey around the world!

On October 13th, 2012, the IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) in conjunction with the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) is hosting the second annual World Female Hockey Day. Female hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. It is an opportunity for girls of every age to try and experience ice hockey at all levels. The day will also be a fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to help build awareness and support towards a cure for breast cancer.

The Purpose: The IIHF World Female Hockey Day Marathon and Fundraiser objectives are twofold: build awareness for female hockey in our community and around the world; and build awareness and a cure for breast cancer — what a WIN- WIN for two great causes!

The Hockey Marathon: To be held at RIM Park in Waterloo, the Hockey Marathon Schedule looks like this:

Pillars, Optimist and Lions Rinks

8:00 am to 10:00pm Local Girls House League and Rep Hockey Teams “Play for Pink”

10:00am to 12:00pm: Learn to play hockey with Olympians – Cheryl Pounder and Becky Keller

12:00pm to 2:00pm: PWHL game K-W Rangers vs. Whitby Jr. Wolves

2:00pm to 5:00pm: OUA game Toronto Varsity Blues vs. Waterloo Warriors

5:00pm to 8:00pm: CWHL game Brampton vs. Toronto Furies

8:00 am – 10:00 pm Local Girls House League and Rep Hockey Teams “Play for Pink”

“Play for Pink” will be a series of games played from 8 am to 10pm between local House League and Rep girls hockey teams. Schedules and other details will be posted on The Ravens website:

Canadian Breast Cancer Fundraiser,

The fundraiser portion of the event will be supporting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation through the Iced Pink Program. Every dollar raised through the Hockey Marathon event will be donated to breast cancer. Each participating Ravens team will have a donation page on the Iced Pink website. In addition donation activities will be setup throughout the day. All revenue and/or fundraising generated by the event will be donated.
