Grand River Film Festival – GRFF 6.0 – Celebrating 6 Years
The Grand River Film Festival began in 2007 with a vision to fulfill two fundamental social and cultural opportunities for Waterloo Region. First, like most communities in North America, Hollywood movies are watched at dozens of commercial theatres and are a favourite pastime of thousands of movie buffs. However, in Waterloo Region there is a core of people whom take a more serious attitude about film, a successful movie theatre featuring indie films, and University studies focusing on movies as a true art form. That indicated a potential support for a film festival to celebrate the popular art form. Secondly, Waterloo Region is geographically and socially diverse and would earn significant benefits from a cultural activity that could draw our community together. From that idea the Grand River Film Festival was born.
