The Producers at The Registry Theatre
I had the opportunity to get a sneak peak at JM Drama’s The Producers at the Registry Theatre. It will be on stage from August 9-11 and 16-18. Having not seen “The Producers” before, I was pleasantly surprised with both the script and the acting. I will tell you right now, I am not a theatre or music critic, this is purely from the stance of being entertained…and entertained I was. Kevin White and Gary Abbott were very strong leads who I felt were very convincing in the role of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom. The supporting cast was also very good with a few characters standing out including Robin Melick as Carmen Ghia and Brenden Sherratt as Franz Leibkind. I enjoyed watching silver-haired Michael Smyth glide across the dance floor as part of the male ensemble. The script itself is very entertaining. That combined with the talented group of local actors and the direction of Director, Oliver Pavio, makes for a wonderful night.
I also want to give a shout out to the people who created all the costumes. I thought they did a fantastic job. The set design is basic, but the right props were selected to let your imagination do the rest. I also liked the fact that they had live musicians on stage performing the music throughout the play. It definitely added to the mood.
If you are looking for a great night out, you should definitely check out “The Producers”. I will let you know it does run about 3 hours, but it is worth it. There are many places to grab a bite to eat in downtown Kitchener before the 7:30 start time. So, go online, buy your tickets and look forward to being very entertained by The Producers at the Registry Theatre!
