Serbian Food Festival
The Serbian Food Festival is an annual event attracting thousands of people from different cultural backgrounds. The purpose of the festival is to open the doors of the Serbian community to Waterloo Region and share a little taste of Serbia. With a focus on delicious foods, music, dancing and fun stuff for the kids, this event is a good one.
The opening ceremonies are the highlight of the first day where our local, provincial and federal dignitaries have an opportunity to kick things off with opening remarks. The Grand Opening is held in front of Kitchener City Hall on the Friday of the festival weekend. The main event is held on the corner of Fischer Hallman and Ottawa St. in Kitchener on the last Saturday and Sunday in July.
The menu consists mostly of fresh breads and delicious foods from the grill. A very popular dish is the slow roasted pig or lamb. There are sweet and salty pastries, stuffed crepes and numerous deserts. There is lots of seating available. There is live music and dancing all day. For the kids the fun includes a bouncy castle, face painting and an ice cream truck. You will also find an educational display inside the banquet hall where you can learn more about the Serbian culture.
Remember to keep your eyes open for Nole, the festival mascot. You’ll most likely find him dancing or surrounded by kids. Either way, make sure to stop him for a picture.
The Serbian Food Festival is one of KW’s largest outdoor dining experiences and a great way to experience a beautiful and different culture.
