KW Summer Latinfest 2012
KW Summer Latinfest, the festival that was such a rousing success last year is back with the authentic musical traditions of Cuba, Columbia, Mexico, Venezuela and the rest of Latin America, the Caribbean and Jamaica.
This year the free Latin music festival will feature not one but two internationally renowned Latin Bands. You won’t want to miss new generation Cuban band, David Alvarez y Juego de Manos, and joropo band Palo Cruzao from Colombia. Also in the line up of great Ontario Latin bands is Mariachi Guadalajara and others.
FREE CHILDREN’S CONCERT!
LatinFest kicks off Friday July 13th when Crystal Bradford and Liam Kijewski (of Trash Theatre and Earth Day’s Procession of the Species parade) host an all-ages mask making workshop at the Button Factory. Following the workshop, Latin Band, Taking Turns will get things rolling with an interactive children’s concert where the children can don their masks for a song and dance party.
When you’re not listening to hot Latin music or cooling off in the mist tent you can sample mouth-watering food from a selection of specialty ethnic food vendors, shop for crafts or get to know many worthwhile community groups and LatinFest sponsors.
This year Willis Way will be closed to traffic to allow for a larger LatinFest market hosting dozens of specialty ethnic food and craft vendors plus community group and sponsor tables. The town square will be dedicated to the festival stage, dancing and a beer garden cantina serving some of Ontario’s finest craft beers, Latin cocktails and non-alcohol drinks.
For more dancing and festivities join us at the ‘Desvelada’ (wakefulness) after-party at the Button Factory where DJ Jimmy will be pumping out Latin beats from 11pm to 2am for late night revelers. The Chrysalids Cantina will serve up the finest Ontario craft beers, Latin cocktails and non-alcohol drinks.
