End of a generation – Waterloo’s iconic video store Generation X Video.

razors edgeGeneration X Video announced this week that they are closing their doors forever. After 16 years serving up movies you can’t find at Blockbuster they are gone at the end of February. That’s bad news.

Here at 365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo, you know, we’ve always supported independent businesses over franchises. In fact, since today is January 1st, I’ll tell you this. Many ago, my New Year’s resolution was to live franchise free for a year. It was my idea to avoid the predictability of fast food meals, unsurprising movie plots, and wearing company logos on my shirt pockets.

It was a great year. So I extended it, infinitely. But enough about me.

Generation X was a great place to rent movies, movies you could get at Blockbuster for sure. The bad news is they are closing.

The good news is, they are selling off their stock. If there’s a movie you haven’t seen in a while and you think you might want to own, today is the day the movies start being sold off.  For me, I have a hankering to own “the Razor’s Edge” with Bill Murray. I wonder if they have it.
